Sunset Cliff

Burlington, Vermont    |    2008

Sunset Cliff is a house perched on a rugged cliff on the shore of Lake Champlain. The clients demolished a seasonal camp to create their full time residence. The home’s character evokes a New England seashore shingle style cottage. Three covered porches and an outdoor shower enhance the beach-cottage theme of the home. The classic exterior white cedar shingle palette, turn-of-the-century details, a swooping standing seam metal roof with shed dormers gracefully contain the three story home. The traditional architectural language conveyed the familiar with unique characteristics responding to the site and the program. The house received a 5+star energy rating, the highest possible, from the state of Vermont.
